The devastation following the Japanese 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami on March 11, 2011 has had the world's citizens glued to their television sets and newspaper coverage. While damage to buildings, vehicles, and other property has been huge - mounting to millions of pounds, that is nothing, compared to the loss of human life. Rescue teams, including search and rescue dogs have been deployed to locate missing victims and survivors.
Animal lovers will also be concerned about the welfare of dogs, cats, and other animals. A Youtube video of a dog refusing to leave his injured friend, soon became viral, receiving over 8 million views in a short time. Both dogs were rescued, but held separately, with the injured dog in a vet clinic. It is believed that they will eventually be offered for adoption as a pair. Loyalty like that deserves reward.
World Vets has been mobilizing it's staff since March 12, when its emergency response teams were put on alert. A major issue reported is that people had been fleeing the country, leaving their pets behind. As of March 18, World Vets first responder deployment is currently in Sendai Japan after receiving a call for help from a local veterinarian
